The Wheel Stones

Some fantastic wintry conditions at the Wheel stones on Derwent Edge in the Peak District National Park. The Wheel Stones (otherwise known as the Coach and Horses) sit high up behind Derwent Edge overlooking the busy A57 Snake Pass. These strange gritstone formations have been shaped by the elements battering the Derwent Moors over many years. I‘ve visited this location many times over the years, never quite getting the right conditions. On this occasion hoar frost, snow, low cloud and some sublime light combined for a spectacular Winter wonderland.

About Derwent Edge:

The whole of Derwent Edge is a paradise for photographers with plenty of wildlife and various interesting gritstone tors which have been shaped by the elements over the centuries to form intricate shapes. These tors include the Cakes of Bread, the Coach and Horses and the Salt Cellar.
