One of the dramatic cascades on Alt Dearg Mor looking towards Sgurr nan Gilean, one of the most famous Cuillin peaks. Here the many cascades along the river are perfect as foreground for the surrounding Cuillin.
About Sgurr nan Gilean and Sligachan
Sligachan is a small settlement on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Its stunning location on the River Sligachan and its close proximity to the Cuillin mountains make this one of the most iconic and interesting locations on Skye. Situated at the junction of the roads between Portree, Broadford and Dunvegan Sligachan is a great base to explore the island. The hotel here was built in 1830 at this road junction and has historically been the base for climbers to tackle the Cuillins. Legend has it that when in 1395 the Lord of the Isles attacked Skye a great battle was fought at Sligachan and the invaders were driven back to Loch Eynort, where after a cunning plan by the MacAskills all the invaders were wiped out.
