Red Fox Cub – Peak District Wildlife Photography
Red fox cub, Derbyshire, Peak District National Park. I haven’t had very good luck photographing rural foxes over the years thanks to their secretive nature and heavy persecution. The times I have spent with them though have always been magical and will stay with me forever.
Just before leaving for India spent a short amount of time with a local fox family. Photography here proved difficult thanks to wind direction and only one possible viewing angle on the den, not to mention the extremely skittish nature of rural foxes! Despite this I still managed a couple of fantastic encounters.
Red fox cub : About Foxes
Foxes are found across the globe, making them one of the most widespread species in the world. They are found in a range of very diverse habitats from rural areas such as forests, grasslands and mountains, to urban cities and even deserts! This incredible adaptability has earned the red fox a reputation as a cunning and intelligent survivor. Red foxes are typically solitary hunters/scavengers whose success is largely down to their varied diet, consuming everything from small mammals and birds, to fruit and vegetables, reptiles, amphibians. Urban foxes are also particularly well known for opportunistically scavenging human food waste and pet food.
