The proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) also known as the long-nosed monkey is an arboreal Old World monkey with an unusually large nose, a reddish-brown skin color and a long tail. It is endemic to the island of Borneo in South East Asia and typically inhabits mangrove forests and coastal areas of the island.
Proboscis monkeys are fascinating and charismatic primates. With their large noses and potbellies, they are easily recognizable and have earned a special place in the hearts of nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers.
Endemic to the lush rainforests of Borneo, proboscis monkeys are renowned for their unique physical features. The males boast exceptionally long noses, which can grow up to 7 inches in length, making them one of the most distinctive primate species in the world. These distinctive noses are believed to play a role in attracting mates and amplifying vocalizations.
Apart from their notable noses, proboscis monkeys have other remarkable traits. They are skilled climbers, spending most of their lives in trees.
