Little Owl on Wooden Post – Peak District Wildlife Photography
Adult Little Owl perched on an old wooden post in warm evening light. Derbyshire Peak District NP.
One of the parents of the little owl family I photograph, taking a well earned break in the sunshine. It’s great fun watching the owlets as they stomp around the fields, learning to hunt insects. At this age they often don’t know what to do when they find something though and end up spooking themselves instead of the bugs! The young typically stick close to the nesting site until late Summer/early Autumn so I will be running my workshops until the young move off to to establish their own territories.
About Little Owls:
Little Owls were first introduced to the UK in the early 19th century. Of all the owls found in the UK the little owl is the most crepuscular and can often be seen perched in broad daylight. When alarmed they will rapidly bob their heads up and down and rapidly take flight with their long rounded wings.
