More About The Indian Desert Jird:

The desert jird (Meriones hurrianae) otherwise known as the Indian desert gerbil, is a species of jird found in India, Iran and Pakistan. In India they can only be found in the desert regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Here they inhabit desert and barren scrub areas with firm soil, good for digging their burrows. Jirds are gregarious by nature and can often be found in large colonies where the dry ground is covered in burrow entrances. They feed on grasses, nuts, seeds, roots and insects.
