Hawa Mahal, directly translated to ‘palace of breeze’ is beautiful red and pink sandstone palace in, Jaipur, India.

About : Hawa Mahal – Palace of Winds, Jaipur

Hawa Mahal, also known as “Palace of Breeze”or “Palace of Winds”, was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh as an extension to the Royal City Palace of Jaipur. This incredible example of Rajput and Mughal architecture is actually the tallest building in the world without a foundation. The five-storey palace remains structurally sounds thanks to it’s curved shape.

The palace features an incredible 953 windows which serve two important purposes. Firstly it allowed the royal ladies who strictly observed “pardah”, to be able to watch processions on the street without being seen by the public. Secondly the many windows allow a constant cool breeze to flow through and help to keep the palace cool even in the hot summers.
