Dusky leaf monkey

Dusky Leaf Monkey portrait, Langkawi, Malaysia. These adorable monkeys could be seen throughout the deep jungle surrounding our hotel, and would often venture into the grounds of the hotel in search of food.

About the Dusky Leaf Monkey:

The Dusky Leaf Monkey (Trachypithecus obscurus), otherwise known as the Spectacled Langur and Dusky Langur is a small primate found in the Tropical Rainforests of Thailand, Java and Sumatra. They are strictly herbivores, spending their time high up in the trees eating fruits, leaves and flowers. Their striking white circles around their eyes give the appearance of spectacles, earning them their second name; the Spectacled Langur.

In contrast to the dark grey/black adults, newborn dusky leaf monkeys are orangey yellow at birth with a pink face. Within just 6 months from birth their fur changes to the adults grey/black.
