Dove Valley Mist – Peak District Photography

Misty morning view of the Upper Dove Valley from the slopes of Chrome Hill. For this image I put away the wide angle and used my 400mm lens to focus on the low lying mist as it drifted over the landscape.

Late Summer sunrise at one of the Peak Districts most iconic locations, Chrome Hill. With a cool clear night forecast I was feeling optimistic for a thick layer of mist in the valley. After a 4.30am start I met good friend and fellow photographer Adam Sherratt in Earl Sterndale and we headed up Chrome Hill. Sadly when the sun started to rise we could see the mist wasn’t as extensive as hoped. The stunning sunlight and the Autumn colours of the tree more than made up for the early start though, a gorgeous morning!

About the Dove Valley and Chrome and Parkhouse Hills:

The distinctive Chrome and Parkhouse hills are the remains of reef knolls believed to have existed during the Carboniferous period when the Peak District was covered by a tropical sea.
