Burbage Edge Millstones in Snow
Burbage Edge Millstones in Snow. After sunrise one morning on Over Owler Tor I decided to spend the whole day out in the snow, finishing with sunset at Burbage Edge. I’ve photographed these abandoned millstones many times over the years but never before with a coating of snow. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that no one else had passed by yet and the snow was still nice and fresh! In contrast to the overcast morning there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sun created a beautiful warm glow as it dipped below the horizon.
About Burbage Edge:
Burbage Edge lies on the eastern side of the Peak District National Park and is in fact just eight miles west of the centre of Sheffield making it an extremely popular walking and climbing hotspot. The Burbage Valley features two famous gritstone outcrops Higger Tor and Carl Wark, the latter of which is topped with the remains of what is thought to be a Bronze or Iron Age hill fort.
