White Peak
The White Peak is well known for its rolling grassy hills, peppered with sections of exposed limestone pavement. These are the remains of limestone reef knolls which existed during the Carboniferous period when the Peak District was covered by a tropical sea.
The limestone plateau is criss crossed by deep limestone dales that shelter pristine ash woodland and crystal clear rivers and streams. In Spring and Summer the seep sided dales explode with blossoming wildflowers and the buzz of insects.
