About Shield Bugs:
‘Shield bug’ refers a wide range of insects in the superfamily Pentatomoidea. In Britain there are 69 different species of shield bug which belong to several different families.
The shield bug has glands between the first and second pair of legs that produce a foul-smelling fluid when threatened in order to deter predators. This evolutionary trait gives them their alternative name; stink bugs.
Stink bugs attract each other through vibrational frequencies by rubbing their feet and wings against each other. When they hatch the nymphs are wingless and complete 5 stages of metamorphosis before they become adults.
